Yoga Techniques for Managing Anxiety Naturally
Is anxiety interfering with your daily life?
Do you often feel emotions of overwhelm, worry, or fear? Are thousands of thoughts constantly racing through your head? Are troubles with focus and concentration causing difficulties with work, school or family relationships? Has your body been experiencing physical symptoms like shortness of breath, heart racing, stomach upset, or tight muscles in areas like the neck and shoulders? These are symptoms of anxiety and can wreak havoc in your everyday life. You don’t have to live with anxiety!
When anxiety is not normal
It’s normal to experience uncertainty to some extent like worrying about job interviews, tests, deadlines, and finances. However, it’s not normal to suffer with anxiety. Do you find yourself unable to turn off the racing thoughts associated with anxiety leading to lack of sleep, feelings of being constantly tired, exhausted and unmotivated? Often this leads to further troubles with focus and concentration at work, school, home or other activities. Sometimes the fast breathing associated with anxiety can lead you to feel like you can’t breathe, your heart is racing and a feeling of panic or confusion as to whether you are having a heart attack. There is no shame in admitting you have anxiety. In fact, it is common. Anxiety disorders affect nearly 1 in 5 American adults each year. Change is possible and can occur quicker than you think. You can take control of how you feel!
The good news
The good news is that most anxiety disorders can get better with talk therapy, medications, or complementary therapies like yoga. Since the 1970’s numerous research studies have shown the efficacy of yoga, meditation and other stress reduction techniques as treatments for anxiety. Through the use of movement, breathing practices, relaxation and meditation you can improve your body’s ability to respond to stress and anxiety.
Yoga as a natural and proven approach
Both research and experience have proven yoga breathing practices are particularly effective for quickly slowing down the racing thoughts associated with anxiety and helping to regulate the autonomic nervous system.
